The Southern Rock Society has just recently come back from the Long Island Summer Jam 2010 where we were treated to a hell of a Southern Rock party on the beach in Babylon NY. ...

Let’s get the party started for those gracious New Yorkers who ain’t gonna settle for anything less than a top notch show! The Chris Hicks Band kicked things off in high gear rocking us with their brand of bluesy rock that is second to none. Even more amazing was that Chris himself was playing drums for most of the time due to Jake Caldwell, the bands fine drummer not being able to make the show. Hey Chris is there anything you can’t do in music, what a great performance from a classy Southern Band!

The boys from Atlanta Georgia were up next that’s right Blackberry Smoke! For those of you who have not seen these guys make sure you do because they are red hot these days playing their brand of Southern Rock that absolutely kicks ass! After Richard Turner got the Gremlin corralled that was running around inside his bass they picked back up and blew out the rest of a great set, don’t miss em!!

As far as the next band is concerned The Outlaws, this band delivers more every time I see them. They are pros from the opener “There Goes Another Love Song” to an encore of “Ghostriders In The Sky” (with Chris Hicks on stage also) they put the smackdown on the beach that day! God bless Hughie, Henry, Monte and all the rest of the Outlaws past and present for what you created and what you continue to do!

What can I say representing my home state and its great city of Jacksonville Fl. Molly Hatchet came on next and brought their thunder to that Long Island beach!! Bringing us one classic Hatchet hit after another and even giving us a tease of their new Album “Justice” out June 1st on CD and 12” vinyl by plying “American Pride´ from it. It was damn close to a parting of that New York sea from their powerful sound! Great jobs guys and a special thanks to Bobby Ingram who had the Southern Rock Society back with them on the bus to talk about the new album release, you can check out the interview coming up soon at our main site www.southernrocksociety.com.

The evening was capped off by that Band from Spartenburg SC, The Marshall Tucker Band! Led by the birthday boy Doug Gray the band is sounding as good as ever and if it hadn’t been for being on the MH bus we would have been right their in front rockin’ with everyone to the great Marshall Tucker Band!!

Hats off to Big John and all involved in putting the first annual Long Island Summer Jam! Good food, plenty of cold beer and drinks, great people and a hell of a lot of kickass Southern Rock!!!!!!!!! Hope to see everyone out there again next year, you know the Southern Rock Society will be there!!
